Vs1. 1818, Athens came to be, cotton was the economy. Before Alabama was a state, Athens was a city, working toward things to come. We’ve come a long way, still so far to go, the half has never been told. Now it’s up to us, to finish the job, and make the city what it ought to be.
Hook: Athens, Alabama, we’ve got potential for days, come what may, every race and creed must come together, we’ll be alright, we’ll be alright. Every move we make, has to celebrate, unity and brotherly love. It’s an achievable mission; we’ve got permission to be the best that we can be.
Vs2. Within ourselves, we’ve got the strength to be, living in integrity . If we put pride aside, and let The Lord lead us on, a bright future is our destiny. Let’s lend a hand, so we all can succeed, steering clear of strife and greed. Right here and now, let’s be our brother’s keeper, then we’ll come forth as pure gold.
